Louis P. Christman, 1903 Wright Flyer Drawings

Abstract Orville and Wilbur Wright never constructed a complete set of drawings for any of their flyers or gliders. In the mid-1940s, friend of the Wright's, Edward Deeds, commissioned Louis P. Christman, to complete, not only a set of drawings for the famous 1903 Flyer, but also the 1900, 1901, and 1902 Gliders, and the 1903 and 1904 Flyers. Abstract The Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical Engine Drawing Collection is a collection of over 50,000 aircraft engine part and power system drawings produced by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. The collection consists of approximately 1324 rolls of microfilm containing thousands of engine part drawings, more than a thousand engine drawings, an index to the engine parts that were microfilmed, cards documenting tools used to make the engine parts, and a number of aircraft engine manuals. "High Acres" Landscape Plan (SC-281)

Abstract

High Acres was the Dayton home built for the President of the Rike-Kumler Department Store, Frederick Rike, and his wife Ethel in 1929. It was designed by Cleveland architects Meade and Hamilton and the grounds were designed by Dayton landscape architect Samuel D. Zehrung. This collection consists of one oversize plan of the grounds.

Abstract The collection consists of flight manuals, owner’s manuals, handbooks, and pilot training materials for aircraft, many of which Jarvi piloted, including the jet fighter planes he flew during his distinguished career in the United States Air Force. Lewis D. Klein Architecture Collection

Abstract

Lewis D. Klein was an architect in the Dayton, Ohio area from 1957 to 1983. The collection consists of drawings for 230 different architecture design jobs he bid on. The collection includes from proposed or conceptual drawings up to full sets of plans. Of the 230 jobs, 27 are for residences and 49 are for apartment complexes. The rest are commercial buildings, including shopping plazas, churches, and various business facilities.

Dean Mosher Collection (MS-320)

This collection contains illustrations and correspondence concerning Mosher’s original painting, “The Bishop’s Boys” (2003), depicting the Wright Brothers in flight over Huffman Prairie on May 25, 1910, the only time the brothers ever flew together. The collection also includes materials concerning Mosher’s “Great Moments in U.S. Naval History” series (1997).

Dr. Hans von Ohain Papers

Abstract

Dr. Hans von Ohain was the co-inventor of the first successful jet engine. After World War II, he moved to Dayton, Ohio where he was a research scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. His papers contain patents, correspondence, speeches, technical reports, scientific articles, awards, and photographs. Some documents are in German and French, but the majority of the collection is in English.

Jerusha Hall Peacock Papers

Abstract

Jerusha Peacock was a student at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in the early 1860s, and later taught at Antioch's Preparatory School from 1865-1873. Her papers consist of letters written primarily to her mother and sisters, essays, a collection of her poetry, and a sketchbook. Peacock's letters colorfully describe her life at Antioch, her travels, acquaintances, and activities.
